Attorneys

Donna Miller works in the Litigation Division of the firm. She practices in both state and federal court as well as before the Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner. She joined the law firm of Grefe & Sidney in 1997.

She represents individuals and corporations in litigated matters throughout the state of Iowa. She obtained summary judgment for a window manufacturer in federal court in a $2.5 million products liability and property damage case. The Eighth Circuit affirmed the dismissal. She has also succeeded with defense verdicts in personal injury and property damage cases in both the state and federal courts.

Donna represents employers and insurers before the Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner, and she advises both large and small companies on workers’ compensation issues within their operations.

Donna has appeared before the Iowa Supreme Court and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals on several occasions.

After attending Northeast Missouri State University and graduating cum laude in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Justice Systems, Donna attended University of Iowa College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor with High Distinction in 1995. While in law school, she was an editor and for the Journal of Transnational Law and Contemporary Problems and her article about Boris Yeltsin and Russia's constitutional crisis was published in 1995. She is a member of the Order of the Coif.

Following law school, Donna served as a judicial law clerk to the Iowa District Court , Fifth Judicial District, and as a judicial law clerk for the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa.

Donna is a member of the American Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association, the Polk County Bar Association, Iowa Association of Workers' Compensation Lawyers, and Iowa Defense Counsel Association.

Outside of work, Donna is involved in a number of non-profit organizations. She serves on the board of directors for both the local Goodwill as well as the national Goodwill. She is the Past President of the Board of the AIDS Project of Central Iowa and Southwestern Hills Neighborhood Association.  She is also an active volunteer for Volunteer Legal Services, Youth Leadership Initiative, and Young Women's Resource Center. Donna was recognized by the Des Moines Business Record as a member of its "40 Under 40" 2005 Class.
