Guy Cook Speaks in Recognition of Judge Jarvey’s Retirement

Posted on: April 1st, 2022

On March 4, Guy Cook had the privilege of speaking at the special session of court held in honor of Federal Chief Judge John A. Jarvey’s recent retirement. Judge John Jarvey was appointed to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa in 2007 by President George W. Bush. In 2015, he became Chief Judge for the district.

Judge Jarvey graduated from Drake University Law School in 1981. After leaving Drake, he served as a law clerk in the Northern District of Iowa before practicing as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice for four years. Judge Jarvey then returned to the northern district as a magistrate judge from 1987 to 2007.

As Guy accurately articulated, Judge Jarvey promoted the rule of law “by showing respect for the litigants and their counsel and by treating everyone with respect and dignity.” We wish Judge Jarvey the best in retirement.
